That is what you get for buying a car that makes more pollution then a v8 over its lifetime. The high dens battery’s they use are so harmful to our environment…. Why do people fall for this? We had electric cars in 1900…..Who killed the electric car?

If you dont have brakes, you can be screwed. But acceleration??
    1. Put it in neutral
    2. Turn the car off
    this guy=DUMB

So he spent his time trying to pull up on the pedal but was too stupid to put it in neutral??? The 911 operator even suggested this and he blew her off.

@turdfurgason2 Please refer to a recent motor trend article comparing the new mustang camaro and challenger for their explanation. I’m sure it’s on their website for details. They compared the braking hp of each car to measure which car has the strongest brakes indioendant of their weight. I have it in their recent magazine and as such haven’t bothered to find it.

@DaBluedude100 You are absolutely correct that HP is calculated from Wattage. 1 HP = 745.7 watts (depending on where you are located). However, wattage is a measurement of the amount of energy required to maintain an object’s velocity of one meter per second against 1 Newton of force. This is quite the opposite of what brakes accomplish. If you are thinking that it can be calculated based upon heat generation, you must also know that heat is not the only byproduct of the braking process.

@turdfurgason2 No. I am well aware of what bhp means. And torque. And the way they measure braking force. I will explain if you will listen. Hp can be converted to kw of energy. I am not sure of the conversion factor. Google will find the conversion I am sure. We also know that brakes generate stoping power by basically producing heat. This obviously is a measure in kw of energy. Then you convert back. Does this clarify?

actually, brake horsepower, BHP (im assuming that this is what you are talking about) is a measurement of horsepower being generated considering all parasitic losses. Braking force is a function of 3 elements: applied pressure (ie clamping force), contact surface area, and the coefficient of friction. Braking force/performance is NOT expressed in terms of horsepower, rather it is typically expressed in terms of 60-0mph distance (I know there are many variables to consider).

@turdfurgason2 Lol. Of course you can measure braking force in hp. Motoring journals do it all the the time. How else would you measure it. I suppose it should be mentioned that it is not consistent as they would overheat but still. Brakes counter hp. And because no extra dimensions are used it must be concluded that they are using a similar unit of which can be converted into hp. Remember that hp is often represented in metric in many parts of the world.

@DaBluedude100 just so that we are all on the same page………you can NOT measure stopping force in hp. Im not sure that anything you said makes sense.

what a load of malarkey… just take the fucking thing out of gear. and ive yet to see a modern car that doesnt have brakes that outmatch the engine power…. the prius brakes easily generate 350hp in force which would stop the car compared to the what 125hp the engine at full revs could produce… just stop the car!

go fuck yourself mother fucker learn how to drive before you get your licence. first all you and put the car in neutral and you will coast to a stop and you will still have brakes. second you can hold the off button. this is y mothers fuckers like this fuckhead shouldnt be able to drive a car.

@toyotaprius79 Um, before you go make a fool of yourself, you can take a automatic out of gear. Its called neutral, and yes you can even put a crappy car like a Prius into it. Any automatic car can go into neutral even while driving. Even my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee can. Have you ever heard a car rev its engine while he is going down the road?…it is because he is neutral. And I thank you for trying to help stop pollution by driving a fuel effcient car. Just dont be a jerk about it.

Everyone knows WHAT happened, what we need to know is WHY it happened – and “because the Prius is such a sh#t car” is not the reason.

@tascadodani A mechanic I know was telling how many companies like Toyota are trying to go computerized for many parts of cars and don’t even consider that no computer is perfect. They all eventually run into a glitch. You guys might want to consider those automatic parking cars that could glitch and run wild one day.
