Toyota 911 Call Of Family’s Fatal Lexus Crash

Before Toyota could be bothered to recall 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus cars that they had known for two years had a problem, an off-duty state trooper and three members of his family had to die in fatal car crash when the car accelerated . This is the recording of their 911 call moments before they crashed into the end of the freeway at 120 mph. Panic is a very powerful emotion. If you find yourself in this situation, the key is to remain calm and put the car in neutral until the car slows down enough so you can safely pull off the road

It’s tough being a 911 operator since there are so many potential hazards that you may need to deal with. I’m sure the officer was a good man but I think he probably panicked in that situation and as you know no one makes good decisions in a panicked state.

Damn it, if only the manufactures could implement some kind of mechanical way to immediately disconnect the engine from the rest of the drivetrain….
    I should be an engineer!!!!

@speculativereasoning It’s part of my intent to psychoanalyze where your coming from! Nomally you misspell a few words and that’s all a liar “with an agenda” needs for a defamatory attack! Bingo! By the way you misspelled “plagiarizing”! I did L.M.A.O. l.o.l.l.o.l.!!

Agreed. Four people in the car, and not one of them thought to put it in neutral, or even jam it into park.

Apparently there are a lot of folks who haven’t quite figured that out yet (or weren’t paying attention during Driver’s Ed). I find it absolutely incredible that a State Trooper (with all their training) couldn’t figure that out. I’m baffled by the simplicity of it.

speculativereasoningHow can you know so much about why Toyota owners say they cannot put there runaway cars in neutral when Toyota can’t explain it?If you could dare to look outside the box for an intelligent review of what is happening you may have a better understanding! Plagiarizing terms that you found on the internet that are beyond your comprehension(“electronic systems”"electro-mechanical systems”) does NOT make your argument any more sound! A defective neutral saftey swtich is possible!

Shift into neutral apply emergency brake. They taught this in driving school how fucking retarded can you be?

Toyota know about this problem at least 4 year before this accident happened. If they cared about people’s lives more than making money, they might have given instructions on how to stop the car.

In the SDSD report made by his fellow officers they clearly blame the cause on the floor mat. As well in the same report they list a witness who drove the car 3 days before and had the gas stick on him – he wasn’t a cop. He reported it to the dealer quote: “I think its the mat” – they didn’t do anything.

Toyota – “Moving Forward” – Even when you let your foot off the gas pedal..
Toyota – “Moving Forward” – Even when you stomp on the brakes..
Toyota – “Moving Forward” – Even when you shift into neutral & pull the E-brake.
Toyota – “Moving Forward” – Until it slams into the back of a semi-truck @ 110 mph

What a dumbass. Maybe you should know the basics of how cars work before you take your family out driving in one. Darwin award for this whole family.

Why the hell not? There were four people in that car. Not one of them thought to put it in neutral or jam it into park. Why? Because they were in panic mode. Analysis Paralysis. They couldn’t take their attention away from the problem and look for a solution. This phenomenon has been well documented with pilots of doomed airliners. They become so consumed in the problem at hand, that they don’t see the big picture.

This inherent electronic design flaw does NOTHING to prevent someone from simply putting the car in neutral. The electronic problem relates specifically to acceleration and braking. You are speaking out of ignorance, because you do not understand the difference between “electronic systems” (micro-chipsets with software embedded), and “electro-mechanical systems” which use mechanical linkages to activate servos and motors. If you did understand, you would know that what you’re saying is rubbish.

speculativereasoning: And at one time mechanical linkages controlled ALL accelerator pedals and brakes and steering and transmissions etc.ect.ect.! Not anymore! I do agree with you that many people do not know how to handle there vehicles in emergency situations, that is a given! But an environmental emergency situation is one thing but an inherent electronic design flaw is another!

    fuck u toyota

  26. Posted March 10, 2010 at 11:27 am | Permalink

Wow…If this is real I think that there should be mandatory safety lessons given to everyone on how to put a vehicle into neutral. Yes more government intervention is requires to help save us from ourselves……or in this case save the rest of us from the incompetent drivers of the world. Since this is a capitalist society I can give a “Put it in Neutral Fool” clinic starting at $29.95 and up. Any Takers? I provide a graduation certificate at the end of the course as well. Phase 2 training involves throwing it into park…damn the tranny we choose life!
